Sample Itinerary: 4-Day Sahara Desert Weekend
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech
Your driver meets your group at Marrakech Menara Airport (or your accommodation if already in the city) and transfers you to a traditional riad in the medina. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore: the souks, the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque, and the legendary chaos of Jemaa el-Fna square, storytellers, snake charmers, and food stalls that serve the best grilled meat and fresh orange juice in Morocco.
Day 2: High Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Sunset Camel Trek
The drive south crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 metres, the highest mountain road in Morocco, with sweeping views across the High Atlas. Stop at Ait Ben Haddou to explore the UNESCO kasbah and its film history before continuing to the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Mount your camels at sunset for the trek into the desert, arriving at your luxury camp as the sky turns violet. Dinner is a traditional tagine eaten around a campfire while Berber musicians play drums and guembri long into the night.
Day 3: Sandboarding - Quad Biking - Dades Valley
Wake before sunrise to climb the dunes on foot and watch the Sahara light up in gold and flame. After breakfast, an optional ATV quad biking across the desert plain and sandboarding down the tallest dunes (equipment included). The afternoon drive heads west through Erfoud’s fossil workshops and the towering Todra Gorges, a 300-metre slot canyon, before reaching the Dades Valley for the night.
Day 4: Dades Valley - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
The final drive back to Marrakech follows the ancient caravan route through the Valley of Roses (spectacular in May when the Damascene roses bloom) and back over the High Atlas. Airport drop-off or return to your accommodation by late afternoon.
